Choosing Your Best Future: Picking the Perfect Subjects for gr. 9/ 10-12

When your child has to choose their subjects in gr. 9 for gr.10-12, they should look at themselves holistically and consider their long term study goals and career path and the hopes and dreams they have as a unique and colorful person for a fulfilling career and life one day – no pressure!

I know it seems like a lot, but it could be fun too, let me help you to figure it all out and let’s take it step by step.

Personality Type

Who are you? What is your Personality Type? What are your innate strengths, career aptitude, intelligence style and motivations? Choose subjects that align with your strengths, interests and academic goals.

Career Pathway

What are your career interests and what kind of job to you want to pursue? Consider how your subjects can prepare you for a career. You can also think about whether you want to study a particular course at college or university or if you want to enter the workplace after school and do in-service training.

Curriculum and Matric (with our without exemption)

What curriculum are you doing and what subjects are available to you from your school or curriculum service provider? Do you want to aim for matric exemption to study a degree course at an university? Or do a bridging course after gr.12? Don't be afraid to challenge yourself, even if it means taking classes that aren't easy. Admissions officers want to see that you're earning good grades in challenging classes.

Neuro-type and Mental Wellness

What fits your neuro-type? If you are neurodivergent (e.g. Autistic, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, etc.) what are your special interests and the things you love? Consider how you can reach your goals and pursue your career path, at your own pace. Avoid taking on too many classes, as this can lead to stress and prevent you from performing to your potential. Your mental wellness is just as important as any academic achievement.
