Neuro-Spicy Wellness Counselling
I offer Wellness Counselling to neurodivergent teens and adults, it is a safe space in which to explore and understand their neuro-type and living and thriving as a neurodivergent person in a predominantly neurotypical world. My approach is strength-based and neurodivergent-affirming; I aim to encourage, empower and equip neuro-spicy people to embrace their authentic selves and to hear, validate and follow their own inner guidance.

I prioritize family-centered care and recognize the importance of meeting the individual needs of each family member to promote wellness. I use a multimodal & holistic approach that aims to act on the different spheres of life impacted. In practice, it generally may consist of psycho-social therapeutic interventions, environmental adjustments, psycho-education and drug treatment (if indicated by a psychiatrist). Psycho-social therapy helps the client develop strategies for managing difficulties and improving their psycho-social functioning. Environmental adjustments, at home, school, or work, aim to adapt the context to the specific needs of the client. Lastly, psycho-education allows the client and their relatives to better understand their neuro-differences and implement concrete strategies for managing it on a daily basis.

The effectiveness of the multimodal approach relies on close collaboration between the various professionals involved in the management. This interprofessional collaboration is essential to ensure the coherence and complementarity of the interventions. It involves regular communication between practitioners, a clarification of everyone’s roles and responsibilities, as well as a shared vision of care goals. All the role players, e.g. the treating Physician, Clinical Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Teacher, and the Wellness Counsellor may thus be called upon to work together in a dynamic of co-building the therapeutic support system. The client and their relatives occupy a central place in this collaborative approach. They are considered as full partners in the management, experts in their own situation. Their active participation in all stages of the care process is encouraged, from the initial assessment to the implementation and monitoring of the intervention plan. This involvement promotes adherence to care, motivation for change, and gradual empowerment of the neurodivergent person.
I embrace diversity in all its forms, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, people from different cultures and races, those with disabilities, and those with different neurotypes and genders. I believe that by fostering an accepting and inclusive environment that values our differences, we can create safe places for our children and our families that benefits us all.
